January Recap

We are one month into 2023, which for us will be a year of immense growth. As we enter the next decade of STEM From Dance, our sights are set on reaching more girls in more cities than ever before, while continuing to develop our programs and celebrate our wins along the way. Keep reading for happenings during this month’s programming, a special announcement from Brooklyn Community Foundation, and upcoming events.

STEM From Dance Partners with Amazon

We partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide programming at five schools. Through our partnership, we incorporated Amazon into our “Step Up with AI” module, led girls on a virtual AWS visit, and hosted four guest speakers from AWS. This partnership allowed girls to see STEM’s real-world applications and learn from one of the most successful and innovative technology companies. This month we celebrated this partnership by hosting parties at each site, including a dance masterclass and a lesson on how AI is used in the real world. We are so grateful to AWS for making STEM accessible to these girls.

We Are Sparking Innovation in Brooklyn

Have you heard? We are one of five Spark Prize winners. Every year the Brooklyn Community Foundation awards $100,000 to each winner to celebrate organizations that demonstrate a commitment to equity and racial justice, creativity and impact, strong institutional values, and a dynamic vision for the future of their work in Brooklyn and beyond.

We deeply believe in Brooklyn's youth, talent, and potential and are committed to building an equitable future in STEM. We are so grateful for the support and opportunity to empower even more girls of color. Read more about the Spark Prize and our fellow recipients below.

Honoring Congressman Hakeem Jeffries

We had the honor of performing at Congressman Hakeem Jeffries Community Inauguration on Sunday, January 29th in Brooklyn, NY. Jeffries is the Congressman for District 8 and the Leader of the House Democrats. It was an amazing opportunity to celebrate with our community and to put on a tech-infused performance for the changemakers in our city.
